About Supercharger & Turbocharger and Other Equipment

This post highlights the difference between turbocharger and superchargers and also introduces the function of Delphi injector control valve and turbocharger actuator sensor.

Colloquially famous as a turbo, a turbocharger is an induction device which is a turbine-driven forced in feature. This device helps in increasing the power and efficiency output of an internal combustion engine, totally by forcing the added compressed air directly into the combustion chamber. The main function lies in the compressor that can force in more air as well as more fuel into the concerned combustion chamber. As we all know by now that turbochargers were originally popular as turbo superchargers. This was the time when all of the forced induction devices in the market were categorized as superchargers. If you go through the sections on turbocharger carefully, you will find that the word ‘supercharger’ is now only applicable to automatically driven forced induction devices.  The main difference between a conventional supercharger and a turbocharger is nothing but the former is mechanically driven with the help of engine and the latter is powered with the help of a turbine which is driven by your vehicle’s exhaust gas present in the engine. Now, if you compare with any mechanically driven supercharger, you will find that turbochargers are likely to be more efficient, however, less responsive.

Let us check out the variations between turbochargers and superchargers –

Ø Turbocharger and Supercharger

When the discussion is about automobile parts, you will always find a bit of terminology, which actually confuses any individual easily. It is important to understand the differences between the diverse components which would help you in making a good decision. If you check out what the auto industry people say, you will discover that people mention both the terms turbochargers and superchargers almost in the same breath. Both are known for their forced induction systems. However, their main difference is one works with power and the other works manually. In one line, the main difference between them is none other than their power supply.
A supercharger will help in compressing air there in the atmospheric pressure, thus boosting the same by literally forcing air straight into the engine while a turbocharger with the help of exhaust stream will run through the turbine that will automatically spin the compressor.

Ø Functions of Other Equipment

Learning the difference is not enough if you aren’t sure of the other equipment and their functions inside the charger. Do you know what an injection pump does? It is the device that helps in pumping diesel directly into your vehicle’s diesel engine’s cylinders. Usually that injection pump gets driven indirectly by gears, a toothed belt and chains from the crankshaft. Now, when you are looking for durable pressure relief nothing can beat Delphi injector control valve. Using such an amazing injector control valve will offer comfort in all forms. Its key function will provide accurate timing of your vehicle’s fuel injection, especially during the end time of injection. Injectors help in delivering fuel directly into the engine cylinders while controlling the fuel atomization, injecting time and other kind of parameters.
When the discussion of injector has started, you must also know what turbocharger actuator sensor does. In fact, it does a very easy and simple job yet important. The role is to relief the pressure from the valve, while controlling the boosting output of the turbo engine. It also diverts excess exhaust gases right away from your vehicle’s turbo wheel. Now, this would help in controlling the turbine’s speed, thus preventing the same from over-speeding and also the speed regulation of the compressor.
